Mandalas begin with a circle or, often in my case, interconnecting circles. Circles offer a chance to clarify what is inside, what is outside. Wholeness too. Or as Carl Jung states, “My mandalas were cryptograms. . . in which I saw the self—that is, my whole being—actively at work.” Sometimes these mandalas demanded going outside the circle. So I let that happen. Mandalas are for contemplation and enjoyment. They invite interaction.
